Express Entry
The aim of Express Entry, the Canadian immigration selection system is to make the immigration process simpler and quicker for candidates.
Express Entry system is used by IRCC to select candidates for immigration to Canada using the below economic immigration programs:
- Federal Skilled
- Worker Class
- Federal Skilled Trades Class
- Canadian Experience Class
- Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
FEDRAL SKILLED WORKER
In order to be eligible under the Fedral Skilled Worker Program, candidates must meet the minimum requirements in context to selection factors like education, language skills, work experience, age, arrange employment, adaptability and obtain at least 67 points under the program’s 100-point grid.
IRCC determines the eligibility of candidates for the Federal Skilled Worker Program based on points obtained by candidates and issue invitations to only the highest-ranked candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residence under Express Entry pool.
FEDRAL SKILLED TRADE CLASS (FSTC)
FSTC is a Canadian permanent residence pathway for foreign nationals with experience in a skilled trade. Under FSTC individuals with a valid job offer or a certificate of qualification are allowed to obtain permanent residence in any Canadian province or territory other than Quebec.
For the Federal Skilled Trades Class, Skilled work experience eligibility falls into the following categories of the National Occupational Classification (NOC)
- Industrial, electrical and construction trades(Major Group 72)
- Maintenance and equipment operation trades (Major Group 73)
- Supervisors and technical jobs in natural resources, agriculture and related production(Major Group 82)

Canadian Experience Class Immigration Program(CEC)
CEC is for Canada’s foreign workers who wish to become permanent residents. Temporary foreign workers after obtaining Canadian work experience can apply under CEC as these individuals have already established important networks in their communities and their careers and settled into Canadian society
The Canadian Experience Class is also open to individuals who are no longer in Canada, provided that they submit their application within three years of leaving their job in Canada.
**Self-employment and work experience gained while you were a full-time student (for example, on a co-op work term) does not count under this program.
CEC – A Popular Option for International Students
For international graduates, the Canadian Experience Class may offer the simple and the fastest way to achieving permanent residence.
After completing a course of study at a Canadian educational institution, generally international graduates are able to stay in the country on post-graduate work permits. If, during this time, a graduate obtains at least one year of work in a skilled, professional or technical field, then they may then become eligible to enter the Express Entry pool under CEC..
Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
The Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) allow Canadian provinces and territories to nominate individuals who are interested in settling in a particular province of Canada. Each Canadian province and territory has its own Provincial Nominee Program except Nunavut and Quebec. Each PNP has atleast one immigration stream anf there are more than 80+ provincial immigration streams.
